Sunshine in a Glass – 3 Great Juice Recipes!

by

Juices are sunshine

Juices truly are sunshine in a glass. Chock-full of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and plant-based enzymes, they are alkalinising and detoxifying to the body. As fibre has been removed (mostly) during the juicing process, juices do not need as much energy to be digested and used by the body, giving your cells a chance to repair and rebuild.

And with juices, small amounts pack a concentrated nutrition punch. 1 cup (approx. 250 ml) a day is enough to reap benefits, unless you are on some kind of special juice cleanse where the majority of nutrients is coming from just juices.

Enjoy the recipes below! Each of these make approximately 2 serves.

GROUND ME

3 carrots
1 beet (you can also add the stems if you desire)
3 celery stalks
½-inch piece of ginger
Juice of one lemon

Juice the carrots, beet, celery and ginger. Stir the lemon juice in and enjoy.

APPLE POWER

2 apples
¼-inch piece of ginger
2 carrots
Handful of spinach
1 lemon

Juice all the ingredients and enjoy :)

LOVELY LIVER

5 celery stalks
1 cucumber
1 handful of lettuce
1 apple
1 handful of parsley
1 lemon
1 cup coconut water

Juice the celery, cucumber, lettuce, apple, parsley and lemon. Stir the cup of coconut water into the juice and enjoy.

Hi Jo, thanks for the note. I understand that maintaining your “routine” while working nights can be challenging. However, you can still pick quality choices. For example, instead of an energy drink (which can usually be very full of sugar and caffeine that affect your adrenals and insulin resistance), you can have a protein powder shake instead. I usually advise my clients to buy some good vegetable protein (e.g. VitalProtein in Chocolate or Vanilla) and make sure that they take a few scoops with them in small containers in their handbag together with a shaker. When you feel a dip in energy coming on, or as a quick snack, you can have a quick protein shake with either water or some coconut milk / almond milk. Try So Good Unsweetened Almond / Coconut Milk at Woolies for this.
